Japan's household spending down 2.1% in March
(Kyodo) _ (EDS: TO BE LED)
Japan's average monthly household spending in March came to 313,350 yen, falling a real 2.1 percent from a year earlier and marking the third straight monthly decline, the government said Friday.
The average monthly income of salaried households came to 429,948 yen, down 4.9 percent for the fifth straight monthly decline, the Ministry of International Affairs and Communications said.
Starting with figures for February, the ministry changed the way of announcing household spending data, covering all households in a month-end report. Previously, it only covered salaried workers' households in a month-end report as preliminary data and then announced figures for all households.
