Prince Tomohito hospitalized again for slight breathing problem
(Kyodo) _ Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, a cousin of Emperor Akihito, was hospitalized Monday for a slight difficulty in breathing, the Imperial Household Agency said.
The 60-year-old prince, who successfully underwent an operation to remove throat cancer in February, had been feeling tired after having fully resumed his official duties in April, according to the agency.
The prince, however, does not have a fever, and an additional operation is not expected, the agency said.
The prince will stay at the National Cancer Center Hospital East in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, for about a week for checkups. He will cancel his visit to Aichi Prefecture scheduled for Friday to Sunday.
The agency said the prince grew tired due to official duties, which included visiting Hokkaido, Miyagi and Kyoto prefectures. He also attended Thursday's annual spring garden party hosted by the emperor and Empress Michiko at Akasaka Imperial Gardens in Tokyo.
The prince has undergone operations to remove cancer seven times.
