Friday June 2, 11:03 AMLEAD: Empress Michiko has cold, cold sores; no change in Asia trip next week(Kyodo) _ (EDS: ADDING INFO FROM 3RD GRAF)Empress Michiko cancelled a news conference scheduled for Friday because she has a cold and cold sores but there are no changes to an upcoming trip she is to take with Emperor Akihito to Southeast Asia, the Imperial Household Agency said. The couple's press conference was scheduled to take place ahead of the trip to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand from June 8 to 15. Ichiro Kanazawa, medical supervisor of the Imperial Household, said Empress Michiko became ill around Wednesday and reported symptoms including fever and sores around her mouth. She will rest for two or three days to recuperate and hold the press conference on Tuesday, he said. |
