Friday June 23, 4:23 PMCrown prince's family to vacation in the Netherlands(Kyodo) _ Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako and their daughter, Princess Aiko, will vacation in the Netherlands in August in part to treat the crown princess' stress-induced illness, an Imperial Household Agency official said Friday.The trip, scheduled from mid- to late-August, will be the family's first overseas. No imperial family member has ever gone abroad for recuperation purposes. The crown princess' medical team released a statement saying rest in a quiet environment and spending time with family would be effective for her. Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko have shown understanding for the trip, the official said. Crown Princess Masako has cut back on her attendance at imperial household ceremonies and her public duties since December 2003. She was diagnosed as suffering from an adjustment disorder in July 2004 and has been receiving treatment for it. |
