Lafarge to build 3 mln tonne cement plant in India

PARIS, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Lafarge will build in the fast-growing regional market of Northern India a cement plant with annual capacity of 3 million tonnes to boost capacity, the French construction group said on Tuesday.

The plant, expected to be completed in 2010 will involve a total investment of approximately 160 million euros ($203.2 million), it said.

It will increase Lafarge's cement capacity from 5.5 million to 8.5 million tonnes, Lafarge said in a statement, adding it already has three cement plants in India.

The plant will be built at Alsindi following the approval granted by the state government of Himachal Pradesh.
