Canada wins Japan Prize contest for educational TV programs

(Kyodo) _ "Braindamadj'd...Take II," a program by Canada's Apartment 11 Productions that traces a young producer's recovery from severe brain damage, was awarded this year's Grand Prix Japan Prize for the best educational TV program, the event's sponsor, Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK), said Monday.

Other winners included "The Nutty Boy: The boy with a pan on the head," by Associacao de Comunicacao Educativa Roquette Pinto (Brazil), "Make Some Noise: Activism Is Everywhere" by Omni Film Productions Ltd., Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (Canada) and "Open Frame: That Year That Day" by Leoarts Communication (India).

Crown Prince Naruhito, Emperor Akihito's eldest son, said at a ceremony, "I believe it is truly meaningful to share our knowledge and experiences on how we can make use of the media for education."

The contest collected 280 entries from 61 countries and regions, with 17 jurors from 13 countries picking the winners, according to NHK.
