Taiwan Quanta Computer Q3 net profit up 13 pct y/y
TAIPEI, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Taiwan's Quanta Computer Inc.
, the world's largest contract maker of laptop
computers, said quarterly earnings rose 13 percent from a year
ago.
Quanta, which supplies top PC vendors such as Dell Inc.
and Hewlett-Packard Co. , reported net profit of
T$3.863 billion ($116 million) for the quarter ended in
September, higher than T$3.42 billion a year ago, and up from
T$2.11 billion in the second quarter.
The result beat expectations of a T$2.85 billion profit,
according to the average forecasts from nine analysts surveyed by
Reuters Estimates.
Quanta's main rival and world contract laptop making No. 2
Compal Electronics Inc. , last week posted a
weaker-than-expected 2.1 percent drop in quarterly profit, but
forecast fourth-quarter shipments to rise 18 percent from the
third-quarter. Together, Quanta and Compal make 40 percent of the
world's notebook computers.
Quanta shares gained about 9 percent so far this year, while
Compal shares fell around 3 percent in the same period, compared
to a 7 percent gain on Taiwan's main TAIEX share index
year-to-date.
Quanta trades on an estimated price to earnings (PE) ratio of
15 times while Compal trades at 11.5 times, according to Reuters
data.
