N. Korea backs Iran's nuclear program

(Kyodo) _ The visiting speaker of North Korea's parliament, Che Tai Bek, expressed support Friday for Iran's nuclear development program and stressed the United States and West have no right to defy such activities, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Che expressed Pyongyang's view during talks with his Iranian counterpart Gholamali Haddad Adel, the report said.

The Iranian official was quoted as referring to friendly ties between Tehran and Pyongyang after the Islamic Revolution and saying Iran "highly praises North Korea for its steadfastness against the domineering policies of the United States."

Iran and North Korea are reportedly cooperating in the fields of missile and nuclear development.

The view is prevalent that Iran's medium-range ballistic missile Shahab-3 apparently targeted at Israel is based on North Korea's Rodong missile.
