Seoul shares steady ahead of Fed meeting, banks up

Decliners led gainers at 372 to 367, with 94 titles ending unchanged. Trading volume rose to 361 million shares worth 3.3 trillion won, compared with Monday's 277 million or 2.8 trillion won worth.

Foreign investors bought a net 11.2 billion won worth of shares, ending their selling spree over the past four sessions. Domestic institutions sold a net 40.1 billion won while retail investors also sold a net 39.6 billion won worth.

The June KOSPI 200 futures index rose 0.70 point to 187.95, while the underlying KOSPI 200 spot index gained 0.03 point to 186.34.

On the tech-heavy Kosdaq market, shares rose 0.23 percent to finish at 645.37, led by Neowiz Corp. . The online game developer and operator ended up 3.07 percent at 70,600 won, after surging as much as 12 percent following an announcement that Electronic Arts Inc. would buy a $105 million stake in the South Korean firm.
