Thaksin to Return to Thailand by Year-End: Lawyer

BANGKOK, March 22 Asia Pulse - Thailand's former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will return before the end of this year and is ready to stand at the court to fight corruption charges against him, his legal advisor said Thursday.

Noppadon Pattama, Thaksin's private lawyer, told a news conference in Bangkok today that the former premier has no plan to return to Thailand during this period unless there is an order from the Criminal Court.

However, Thaksin does plan to return before the end of the year to clarify his innocence, Noppadon said.

Noppadon stressed that Thaksin has vowed not to return to politics.

He told the government and the Council for National Security not to worry about Thaksin's return since the aim is only to fight the charges.

"Mr Thaksin made it clear that he wouldn't involve in politics, " Noppadon said.

He also accused prosecutors of unfair treatment in filing lese majeste charge against Thaksin.

Noppadon said that the prosecutors did not sue any anti-Thaksin group by claiming that it was for national reconciliation, but "they vowed to fight the case against Thaksin to the end."
