Xstrata says not looking for Koniambo partner
NOUMEA, New Caledonia, March 26 (Reuters) - Anglo-Swiss
miner Xstrata said on Monday it was not looking for a
partner to help fund development of its Koniambo nickel mining
and smelting project in New Caledonia.
Xstrata put the then US$1.8 billion project on hold last
year after acquiring Canada's Falconbridge to review a cost
overrun.
"We are not considering taking on a partner as an option,"
Michel Rioux, president of the Koniambo nickel project, said at
a conference in New Caledonia.
Earlier on Monday, France's Eramet said it would
consider taking a stake in the project.
