Tuesday March 27, 4:10 PMTennis: Sugita named to Japan's Davis Cup team vs Thailand(Kyodo) _ Yuichi Sugita, the youngest Japanese player to win a Davis Cup singles match, has been named to the Japan team for next month's Asia/Oceania Zone meeting with Thailand, the Japan Tennis Association said Tuesday.Go Soeda, Satoshi Iwabuchi and Takao Suzuki will join Sugita in Japan's Davis Cup squad for the second-round matchup at Namihaya Dome in Osaka Prefecture on April 6-8, with the winner advancing to a playoff for a place in the World Group. The 18-year-old Sugita beat Yu Xinyuan in Beijing in February in Japan's first-round victory over China. Japan has made no changes to the squad that faced China for the upcoming action against the Thais. Japan has a 5-2 record in the Davis Cup against Thailand. |
