Nissan, NEC battery jv to start operations this month

TOKYO, April 13 (Reuters) - Nissan Motor Co. , NEC Corp. and unit NEC Tokin Corp. said on Friday they would form a joint venture this month to develop and market lithium-ion batteries for mass automotive application by 2009.

Nissan and NEC Group will invest 490 million yen ($4.1 million) in the venture.

The company, to be called Automotive Energy Supply Corp. (AESC), will market the batteries to customers in the auto industry, the partners said in a statement.
