Chinese more relaxed about sex before marriage, poll shows
(Kyodo) _ A new survey suggests that Chinese people have an increasingly relaxed attitude toward sex before marriage, state-run media reported Monday.
A study by sociologists at People's University in Beijing showed that nearly two-thirds of those polled did not believe pre-marital sex was a moral issue, the China News Service reported.
A similar poll conducted seven years ago showed 55 percent of people questioned had no moral objection to the issue.
More than 6,000 people around the country took part in the survey.
The divorce rate in China has steadily risen over the past two decades, with the Chinese government announcing in May that nearly 2 million couples got divorced last year.
