Abe not to extend Diet session

(Kyodo) _ Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday he does not intend to extend the current Diet session.

Abe also told reporters in Berlin that he expects a bill aimed at tightening control on post-retirement hiring of government workers to be passed during the current session through June 23.

He made the remarks before moving to the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm to attend a three-day summit of leaders of the Group of Eight nations.

Official campaigning for the House of Councillors' election will be launched on July 5 and voting will take place on July 22 if the Diet session is concluded on June 23 as scheduled.
