Complaint filed against Yamaguchi firm execs for illegal clam import
(Kyodo) _ Customs officials filed a criminal complaint with prosecutors on Monday against the president and two executives of a seafood company in Sanyoonoda, Yamaguchi Prefecture, for allegedly importing North Korean clams in violation of the Customs Law.
Noboru Fujioka, 59, president of Toen Boeki K.K., and the other two allegedly filed for imports with the Moji Customs on three occasions between early February and early March by disguising littleneck clams loaded at a North Korean port as those loaded in China, the officials said.
A similar complaint was also filed against Toen Boeki and a related company on Monday.
The three have already been indicted for allegedly importing the clams, which are subject to economic sanctions by the Japanese government, from North Korea without authorization in violation of the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Control Law.
Japan has banned imports of all North Korean products since last October as part of its sanctions against the country after Pyongyang carried out an underground nuclear explosion that month.
