Support for Abe Cabinet edges up to 34% in Yomiuri poll
(Kyodo) _ The approval rate for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Cabinet rose by 1.5 percentage point to 34.4 percent, while the disapproval rate dropped by 1.9 point to 51.8 percent in the latest Yomiuri Shimbun survey, the newspaper reported Friday.
On the July 29 House of Councillors election, 24 percent of respondents said they would vote for candidates on the ticket of the opposition Democratic Party of Japan in prefectural constituencies, compared with 22 percent favoring candidates on the governing Liberal Democratic Party.
The DPJ was cited by 22 percent as their choice of party for the proportional representation section of the election for the nationwide constituency, compared with 21 percent for the LDP.
On government response to the mismanagement of pension account data, 65 percent said they disapprove of it, while 27 percent said they approve it.
The telephone poll was conducted from Tuesday through Thursday and based on replies from 1,021 people, the newspaper said. The previous survey was conducted June 5-7.
