Mitsubishi Chem's India unit to triple PTA capacity

KOLKATA, India, Aug 23 (Reuters) - The Indian unit of Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Corp aims to nearly triple its capacity for purified terephthalic acid (PTA), a raw material for polyester, by July 2008, a senior company official said on Thursday.
 The firm is spending 17 billion rupees ($415 million) to
add a second line to produce 800,000 tonnes per annum of PTA at
its plant in Haldia in the eastern state of West Bengal, D P
Patra, joint managing director at MCC PTA India Corp Pvt Ltd,
said.     Its current plant has a capacity of 470,000 tonnes of
PTA.

Patra said turnover would rise to 50 billion rupees when the expanded capacity becomes operational, from 20 billion rupees currently.
