Prince Hisahito turns 1
(Kyodo) _ Prince Hisahito, the son of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, marked his first birthday Thursday.
Prince Hisahito, the Japanese imperial family's first male heir to be born in 41 years, now weighs 9,285 grams and is 75 centimeters tall, according to the Imperial Household Agency. He now has several teeth, it said.
Princess Kiko will take her son to the Imperial Palace on Thursday morning to meet his grandparents, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, the agency said.
According to the agency, the prince can now express his feelings in various ways. He laughs when his family or other people speak to him and imitates other people's actions little by little.
The prince is interested in things that make sounds and he touches the keyboard of a piano and beats drums and a xylophone with his elder sisters Princess Mako, 15, and Princess Kako, 12. He also likes picture books, the agency said.
Under Japan's male-only succession law, Prince Hisahito is third in line to the Chrysanthemum Throne behind Crown Prince Naruhito, 47, Emperor Akihito's eldest son, and Prince Akishino, 41, the emperor's second son.
