Mitsubishi moves some SUV production to Netherlands
AMSTERDAM, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Mitsubishi Motors Corp
said on Tuesday it would transfer the production of its
Outlander car for the European market to the Netherlands due to
strong demand and to free up production capacity in Japan.
Mitsubishi's Dutch facility, called NedCar, will produce
about 20,000 SUV Outlander cars in 2008 and 30,000 in subsequent
years, a NedCar spokesman said. NedCar already produces about
70,000 of Mitsubishi's Colt model, he said.
Strong demand for Mitsubishi's Outlander model in Europe and
its new Lancer model worldwide were reasons to shift Outlander
production to the Netherlands, Mitsubishi said in a statement.
The Japanese carmaker also said it wanted to ease the strain
on production capacity at its Mizushima plant in Japan.
