Ngiam's book on S'pore's economic devt launched
SINGAPORE: He became Singapore's youngest permanent secretary, taking up the position in 1972 when he was only 35.Today, Mr Ngiam Tong Dow - who is the chairman of Surbana - can add author to his litany of achievements. His new book, called "Growing Pains of Economic Development: The Singapore Experience", was launched by the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Zhang Xiaokang, on Friday. Penned in Chinese, the book features Mr Ngiam's views on China and a collection of his lectures to mid-career Chinese officials in two postgraduate programmes. Mr Ngiam has been an adjunct lecturer at the Nanyang Technological University since retiring from the Civil Service in 2004. The book is also available in English.
Part of the royalties will be donated to the NTU Bursary Endowment Fund. - CNA/ir
