Bridal store's sudden closure leaves customers stranded

SINGAPORE : A bridal store has closed down suddenly, leaving its customers with no one to turn to.

The Taiwanese owner of Focus Bridal at IMM has reportedly run away.

One couple told MediaCorp News that they had paid almost the full amount for a bridal package.

This was to include the wedding gown, hair-do and makeup, flower arrangements, car decorations, as well as studio photography.

However, they have not heard from the store since its sudden closure earlier this week.

So the couple has to find alternative arrangements and hope that the wedding will go on as planned, in 10 days' time.

The management of IMM said the bridal store has yet to pay one month's rental fees.

Some couples said they have been contacted by other bridal stores, which have offered to take over the bridal services. But the affected couples are required to pay additional charges of up to S$1,000.

However, the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) said that if another store wishes to take over, there should be no additional charge.

CASE has advised the affected customers to take legal action. - CNA/ms
