MOH to make it mandatory for private hospitals to publish bill sizes
SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health (MOH) will make it mandatory for private hospitals to publish their bill sizes soon. The ministry will push this effort more aggressively through legislation later this year, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said at the Second International Conference of the Asia Pacific Society for Healthcare Quality on Thursday. He said when that happens, all private hospitals and doctors accredited here will be required to submit their bill size data. Currently private hospitals provide such data on a voluntary basis, but there are large data gaps. Public hospitals have already been submitting their bill sizes for various procedures for the past five years. Published data include charges for hospital stays, lasik treatment and ward delivery.
The MOH added that this will help patients make informed choices when they choose a hospital and understand the kind of services delivered in relation to costs. - CNA/ac
