Monday January 21, 3:58 PMDaughter of Scottish dynasty on sex charge in Australia
Nicola Clunies-Ross lured the man to her home in Perth one day in October 2006 when they were both aged 19 and tricked him into stripping and allowing himself to be handcuffed to a chair, the prosecutor said. "He thought he was in for a night of sexual adventure," Amanda Burrows told a jury in the West Australian District Court, the national AAP news agency reported. But instead, Burrows told the court, Clunies-Ross, who believed he had wronged her and was lying about an ex-girlfriend, smiled and said: "I am going to destroy you." Another of her boyfriends -- 19-year-old Peter Gurdulic, a soldier from the same army base in Darwin -- then arrived with a sex toy with which Clunies-Ross allegedly assaulted the victim in an hour-long ordeal, the court was told. The court heard that Gurdulic took photographs and videos of the attack and threatened to publish them on an army computer hard drive accessible to all soldiers. The victim fled in a taxi after being released and reported the assault to police after seeking advice from a senior officer, Burrows said. Clunies-Ross pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, aggravated sexual penetration without consent and deprivation of liberty. Gurdulic was found dead in his barracks the following month, after being charged over the attack. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances. Clunies-Ross' family was granted the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean, about 2,700 kilometres (1,680 miles) northwest of Perth, by Queen Victoria in 1886 after Captain John Clunies-Ross, a Scottish trader, landed there in 1825. The Australian government bought the islands from the family in 1978. |
