Friday February 29, 5:53 PMSouth Africa openers ease past 230 vs. Bangladesh
Fellow opener Neil McKenzie (95 not out) is also poised to register a century after hitting his 14th test fifty as he and Smith made the most of a batsman-friendly pitch in Chittagong. Resuming on 92-0 after lunch, Smith became the latest South African member of the 5,000-run club by scoring his 14th test century in the second session of the day, joining Jacques Kallis, Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs. At tea, Smith was 133 not out and the 236-run partnership equalled a previous South African record for an opening stand against any team in the Indian subcontinent. The previous record was set against India in 1996-97 by Andrew Hudson and Kirsten in Kolkata. South Africa wrapped up a five-wicket first test victory in Dhaka on Monday.
