Construction company boss convicted of falsifying tax invoices

SINGAPORE: An owner of a construction company has been convicted of helping a company he has a directorship at, file false tax invoices amounting to S$19,131.12.

Ong Kah Sut owns Visa Contract Service and holds a directorship at Visa Engineering.

Both are construction companies.

He has been convicted at the Subordinate Courts on two charges of helping Visa Engineering evade tax by falsifying two invoices issued by Visa Contract Service in 2001.

The invoices were for sub-contract charges amounting to S$82,196.21.

The Inland Revenue of Singapore said the tax undercharged was S$19,131.12 and the fine is based on three times the amount of tax undercharged amounting to S$57,393.

Ong's sentencing has been adjourned to 4 April 2008.

IRAS is expecting both a custodial sentence and a fine for Ong. - CNA/vm
