Japan, Russia OK for Tokyo's 2008 salmon, trout quota in Russian EEZ
(Kyodo) _ Japan and Russia have agreed that Tokyo's fishing quota of salmon and trout in Moscow's exclusive economic zones will total 9,735 tons in 2008, down 540 tons from 2007, the Fisheries Agency said Saturday.
The fall stemmed from a decline in the number of Japanese fishing boats willing to catch salmon and trout in the Russian EEZ given higher fuel prices, the agency said.
Under the agreement, Japan will pay a fishing fee of 2.9 billion yen to Russia, it said.
