Friday May 16, 12:07 PMLee Kuan Yew's wife in serious condition after stroke
Mrs Lee, who is also the mother of the current prime minister, "suffered sudden left-sided weakness and slurring of speech" on Monday and was taken to hospital, a statement from her husband's office issued late Thursday said. A brain scan revealed she had suffered a "massive right intracerebral hemorrhage," the statement said. While the hemorrhage has stabilised, she "remains in a serious condition although she is able to recognise immediate family members," it added. Mrs Lee, a lawyer whose maiden name is Kwa Geok Choo, also suffered a stroke in 2003. She is the mother of Singapore's current prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong. Her 84-year-old husband, also a former prime minister, is currently a senior adviser in the government with the title minister mentor. |
