MOVES-Merk, State Street Global, Alliance
July 1 (Reuters) - The following financial services
industry appointments were announced on Tuesday. To inform us

MERK INVESTMENTS LLC - Merk Investments LLC, which manages
the Merk Hard Currency Fund, has hired William Poole, a former
top U.S. central bank official, as its senior economic adviser.
Poole, a former economics professor at Brown University, was
president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis until March
2008.
PIMCO
The investment management firm announced two new
appointments to its European Remarketing team. Gian Luca
Giurlani joins PIMCO as Senior Vice President European
Institutional Remarketing and Maddalena Nocera as Institutional
Remarketing Account Manager. Both will be based in London.
Gian Luca joins PIMCO from Crosby Forsyth where he was a
Managing Director and Global Head of Sales and Distribution.
Maddalena re-joins PIMCO from BNY Mellon Asset Management
in London where she covered the Italian market as an account
manager.
SCHRODERS PLC
A global asset management company with $259.6 billion under
management announced that Maha Soueissy will join Schroders as
Middle East Equity Analyst and will be based in its Dubai
office.
Maha Soueissy joins from SHUAA Capital where she was an
associate in the Equity Asset Management team and analyst of
Middle East equities covering a range of sectors across the
MENA region.
TAMWEEL PJSC
The Dubai-based Islamic mortgage financer said it has
appointed Abdulla Nasser Abdulla as deputy group chief
executive. Abdulla was also recently appointed chief executive
of Tamweel Properties & Investments, the company said.

A Bermuda-based insurer and reinsurer announced the
appointment of Dean Benner as its chief investment officer.

GRANT THORNTON LLP
The business and financial adviser announced that Paul
Beecy was promoted to partner-in-charge of the Boston office
Transaction Advisory Services Tax, and new hire, Fred
Astrauskas, has joined the Boston team as executive director of
Transaction Advisory Services.
BANK SARASIN-RABO (ASIA) LTD
The Singapore-based subsidiary of Bank Sarasin & Co Ltd,
has named Reto Marx Head of Southeast Asia, responsible for
marketing and business activities. He joins Sarasin from Credit
Suisse Singapore, where he was most recently the Market Head
responsible for the Asia International Wealth Management Team.
ALLIANCE TRUST ASSET MANAGEMENT
The newly formed subsidiary of Alliance Trust, has
appointed Benedict Lawson as Director, Business Development.
Benedict joins from Seven Investment Management (7IM).
STATE STREET GLOBAL MARKETS
The investment research and trading arm of State Street
Corporation , announced the expansion of its research
teams in London and Boston with the addition of three senior
strategists.
Robert Blake joins as a senior currency strategist based in
Boston. He was previously currency and interest rate strategist
for Bank of America in New York.
Lee Ferridge has been named senior currency strategist
based in London. He previously served as the head of trading
desk strategy at Rabobank International.
Christopher Harvey joins as a senior equity strategist.
Prior to State Street, Harvey was an equity strategist and
partner at Trinium Capital Management in New York.
CANARA BANK
The Indian government has appointed A.C. Mahajan as the
chairman and managing director of state-run Canara Bank
, the bank said. Mahajan, who was the chairman and
managing director of Kolkata-based Allahabad Bank ,
replaces M.B.N. Rao as the chief of the Bangalore-based Canara
Bank.
MILLENNIUM GLOBAL INVESTMENTS LTD
The international alternative investment manager, announced
the appointment of Eelco Fiole as group chief financial
officer. Before that, Fiole was a senior project leader at a
major German consulting firm working on financial management
projects in banks with a primary focus on Eastern Europe.
NEWBRIDGE BANCORP
The bank appointed Pressley Ridgill, as chief executive
officer following the retirement of Robert Lowe on June.
