Thai Cabinet Approves Tax Incentives for Foreign Film Makers

BANGKOK, July 2 Asia Pulse - The Thai cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to offer tax breaks to foreign filmmakers who bring their productions to the kingdom.

According to Deputy Government Spokesman Wirintira Nathongborjaras, the Cabinet approved in principle to offer tax breaks or tax refunds for foreign film makers bringing their projects to Thailand.

These will be coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

The rationale behind the approval is that the government may lose some tax revenue through these measures but the overall return will benefit the country as the cinema industry contributes to Thailand's national economic growth, she said.
