- A Singapore court jailed and fined two Indonesian men for
agreeing to sell their kidneys to people in Singapore. Toni,
whose kidney was removed, got 14 weeks jail and a S$2,000
($1,468) fine; while Sulaiman Damanik, who did not go through
with the kidney transfer, was jailed two weeks and fined
S$1,000.
A 53-year-old Singapore housewife was sentenced to 20
months' jail for getting her dog to bite her Indonesian maid's
thigh and finger three years ago. Prosecutors said the woman
also pulled her maid's hair, slapped her on the face, and
grabbed and squeezed her breasts.

The slowdown in the aviation industry will have a "minimal"
impact on Singapore Technologies Engineering , its
chief executive Tan Pheng Hock said in an interview with the
newspaper. He said the current downturn may also result in
acquisition opportunities for the Singapore defense contractor.
