Thai Total Access CEO to resign from Sept. 1

BANGKOK, July 4 (Reuters) - Total Access Communication PCL , Thailand's second largest mobile operator, said on Friday its chief executive Sigve Brekke would resign from Sept. 1.

TAC, controlled by Norway's Telenor , appointed Tore Johnsen to succeed Brekke, who will head Telenor's Asia operations in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand, the company said in a statement.

Brekke will remain on TAC's board of directors.

Johnsen, chief executive of Telenor Pakistan since August 2004, has over 30 years of experience within the Telenor Group.

Under Brekke's leadership, TAC mounted a rural marketing campaign to build up market share and brand recognition in a highly competitive industry, analysts said.

TAC shares opened down 1.5 percent at a 4-week low of 49.25 baht, after dropping nearly 2 percent on Thursday. The main Thai index was up 0.7 percent on Friday. (Reporting by Khettiya Jittapong, Editing by Darren Schuettler)
