China: Xinhua(Kyodo) _ (EDS: UPDATING)Two people died Saturday in a clash between police and local residents including rubber farmers protesting against a local rubber firm in the country's southwestern province of Yunnan, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. About 400 people fought with police in Menglian Autonomous County in the morning, the report said, adding that 14 people were injured. The report quoted local sources as saying the rubber farmers had protested against the firm on several occasions. Local authorities are investigating the incident, Xinhua said. |
